I have so many lovely memories of Cynthia - that’s how I addressed her, and that lovely name just suited her so well. When Jayne took me to introduce me to her brother Doug and sister-in-law Cynthia, Cynthia made me feel so very welcome, and we hit it off straight away.
Our paths crossed on a couple of past occasions: one was at the Biggin Hill squash club; and another earlier time was when she worked at Redifusion, where Cynthia knew the people that produced and directed a talent show called 'Stubby’s Silver Star Show', and my young band were on it (and won our episode!).
Another lovely memory is that on quite a few occasions Cynthia would bake a fruit sponge and bring it round to us. I told her it was absolutely as my mum, Ethel, used to make. We laughed so much once, when Cynthia took my mum’s blue Crocs out of a skip, and wore them home. I called her Ethel for a while.
Cynthia had a wicked wit, much like my own, and our eyes would twinkle when we saw the same funny side of something. But Cynthia would readily tell me off if she thought I was being too critical of Jayne - she loved Jayne, that’s for sure.
There were many moments and happy times when Cynthia was in our company, and I shall miss her forever.
